Envirothon
Envirothon is a national competition for high school students. Five member teams study provided reference material and participate in hands-on training in soils, aquatics, wildlife, forestry and current environmental issues. The competition includes an oral presentation in which students learn, in a real-life contest the complexities of solving problems while working as a team and having fun.

Speech Contest
Each district will determine prizes for its own contest. Butte Soil & Water Conservation districts prizes will be 1st-$50, 2nd$-30 and 3rd-$20. Each division will determine division level prizes. Division VI prizes will be 1st-$100, 2nd $75 and 3rd-$50. The IASCD Auxiliary provides the prize money at the state conference in the following increments: 1st- $300, 2nd- $200 3rd- $150, 4th- $100.

A week long camp for 12-16 year old students sponsored by the University of Idaho and Idaho Association of Conservation Districts near Ketchum, Idaho. The students study about soils, range, wildlife, forest and water in a fun and hands-on manner. They also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, rappelling, fishing, volleyball, firearms safety, target shooting, and fireside sing-alongs. Teams also compete in the “Tournament of the Outdoors”.

6th Grade Natural Resources Workshop
An all day out of the classroom experience. In the morning, the students learn about the wise use of natural resources from the professionals in the areas of soils, fish and wildlife, range, forest and water. Following a lunch provided by Butte SWCD, South Custer Fire District demonstrates their equipment and discusses fire safety.

6th Grade Poster Contest
Students learn how to create a poster using natural resources as the subject. Butte SWCD Supervisors and staff make classroom presentations to the 6th graders within the district on the current theme and provide the poster paper. Local prizes are 1st-$25, 2nd-$15 and 3rd-$10. Winning posters go on the division, state and national contests.
